HAVE Questions? We’ve Got Answers
BEFORE YOUR FIRST SESSION
-
YES. We offer a free, brief initial consultation (20 minutes) to discuss what you're looking for with therapy, ask questions, decide on next steps, and help determine if we're a good fit for you.
-
People seek therapy for many different reasons, including anxiety, stress, relationship difficulties, grief, life transitions, low self-esteem, trauma, or simply wanting a better understanding of themselves. You don't need to be in crisis or have a specific diagnosis to benefit from therapy. If something is interfering with your well-being, or you're interested in self-improvement or you would like support navigating a difficult situation, therapy is definitely worth exploring.
-
The first session is generally an opportunity to get to know one another and begin understanding what brings you to therapy. Together we explore your current concerns, background, goals, and what you hope to get from therapy. You do not need to have everything figured out before your first appointment. At the Metanoia Collective, therapy is collaborative and relational. Feeling safe is foundational, and our highest priority. From there, the therapeutic relationship begins, and together we get curious, explore, deal with challenges and create solutions to help you navigate.
-
You do not need a referral to begin therapy. You can contact us directly to inquire about services and book an appointment. Some insurance plans or programs may have their own requirements, so it is always a good idea to check your coverage.
ABOUT THERAPY
-
Psychotherapy is a collaborative process designed to help you better understand yourself, manage challenges, develop coping strategies, and work toward meaningful change. Together, we work with you to understand your concerns and identify approaches to help you heal, navigate challenges and reach your goals. The therapeutic process looks different for each individual depending on their unique needs and goals.
-
The frequency of sessions depends on your needs, goals, circumstances, and preferences. Some people begin with weekly sessions, while others may attend less frequently. Together we discuss and create a schedule that makes sense for you and adjust as you develop, and as your needs and goals change.
-
There is no standard length of time for therapy. Some people find that a relatively short period of therapy is helpful for a specific concern, while others choose to continue longer-term to work through more complex or ongoing issues. Your goals, circumstances, and progress can all influence the length of treatment and our work together.
-
That's completely okay. You don't need to arrive to therapy with a prepared list of topics or a clearly defined goal. Therapy is collaborative, and we work with you to help you explore what's been happening and identify areas that may be helpful to focus on.
PRIVACY & CONFIDENTIALITY
-
YES. Information shared during therapy is kept private and confidential. However, confidentiality is also subject to applicable legal, and ethical requirements. During your consultation, before your first session, as well as in your first session, we will explain confidentiality and its limits (ethical code/standards of practice) at the beginning of therapy so that you understand how your information is handled, and feel safe and comfortable to proceed.
-
There are circumstances in which a therapist may be legally or ethically required to disclose information. These can vary depending on applicable laws, professional regulations, and the circumstances involved. We will discuss the relevant limits of confidentiality with you before and at the beginning of treatment.
-
Yes. We may communicate with another healthcare professional when appropriate and when the necessary consent or legal authority is in place. We will discuss this with you first, if collaboration with another provider would be helpful.
FEES AND INSURANCE
-
Therapy fees vary depending on the therapist, session length, professional designation, and type of service. Current fees are discussed and provided before you book or begin treatment so that you can make an informed decision about your care.
-
Coverage varies considerably between insurance plans. Some extended health plans provide coverage for psychotherapy or counselling services, while others may only cover specific professional designations (Psychiatry). We recommend checking directly with your insurance provider to confirm your coverage, including any annual limits and requirements.
-
Currently, we require clients to pay for their session, and provide clients with session receipts for personal submission to their insurance provider for reimbursement. At the moment, we do not offer direct billing, however this is subject to change in the near future. Our current billing method provides you with a detailed invoice to submit to your insurance provider for reimbursement dependent upon your plan and coverage.
-
Common methods include credit card, debit, e-transfer, or other electronic payment methods. We can provide details about accepted payment methods when you book.
-
Yes, an invoice receipt is provided for psychotherapy services directly following each session. Depending on your circumstances and insurance plan, you may be able to submit the receipt to your extended health benefits provider.
APPOINTMENTS AND POLICIES
-
Session length varies by service. Individual psychotherapy sessions are approximately 60 minutes, and EMDR sessions are approximately 90 minutes, although longer sessions may be available when appropriate.
-
We kindly ask for at least 24 hours notice if you need to cancel or reschedule your appointment. A $50 late cancellation fee will apply. This helps account for the time and appointment space that was reserved specifically for you.
-
Your appointment time is reserved exclusively for you. Providing 24 hours’ notice gives us the opportunity to offer that time to another client.
-
We understand that unexpected circumstances happen. Please reach out as soon as possible, and cancellations will be considered on a case-by-case basis.
